History Close Up: War in the Pacific

Siegrun Koop —

The Level 3 History class visited Godley Head and Wigram Airforce Museum for an interactive learning experience of our current topic.

A couple of weeks ago, our Level 3 History class took their study on the War in the Pacific out of the classroom to explore the Godley Heads gun emplacements, the exhibits of Wigram Airforce Museum including a presentation on the Japanese threat to New Zealand and a historical film screening of the battle of Iwo Jima at Lumière Cinemas. Homemade chocolate cake and pizza were well received, and fog rolling in from the sea gave our visit to Godley Head some additional awe. A big thank you to Peter Wilkens, Historian at the Godley Head Trust, for a very informative and engaging guided tour, the educational team at Wigram Airforce Museum, particularly for the insight of your archives, and Lumière Cinemas for welcoming us again. A big thank you also to our wonderful ākonga for their outstanding engagement, which owed them a message of thanks from our host at Godley Head.

Next week, our Level 3 Tourism class is off on their field trip to Queenstown to experience some of New Zealand’s top tourist regions.
