Cimone Page — Nov 13, 2022

When Mrs Page told us we were going to do soap carvings and clay art, the smiles and excitement said it all. The classroom aroma was just amazing!

Who knew soap carving could be such a fun activity to do as part of our 3D Sculptures unit? We had some very interested and excited students who were very curious about why Mrs Page had asked them to bring a soap to school.

Soapstone carving is a safe and enjoyable craft for children who enjoy making and building. Finished sculptures make thoughtful presents for parents, grandparents, teachers, and friends! I'm sure your child told you all about it and probably asked for another block of soap in the grocery store to make another!

I loved hearing all of the children's positive comments, especially this one....'This is just so satisfying Mrs Page.'

Many of the children had never used clay or air dry clay before, so this was a first for a lot of them. We watched a video clip to learn how to make a pinch pot nest and a bird. We embellished with feathers and beads, as well as creating our own eggs and other features. You may have some children asking Santa for air dry clay this Christmas!

Enjoy the photos of our FABULOUS art!
