"The best surfer out there is the one having the most fun."

Ruth Blair —

The Year 3-5s had the best day on Friday. Interesting chats and a walk with Lloyd Esler and surfs up with Jess Terrill.

Lloyd Esler walked with a machete that was 20 years old and he had never needed to sharpen it. He let people (boys) have a turn walking with it. He rubbed polystyrene on a piece of glass which made a noise like an owl and all the birds came flying in. We learnt how linen and linseed oil come from the same plant (flax) and that it is the national flower of Belarus and Northern Ireland. Balancing Rock seemed about 100m tall and Miss Blair's heart was in her mouth when he happily told the kids they could climb it. Luckily only 3 did. And 3 came safely down. What a tour guide!

Surfing was incredible and the adults were a wee bit envious at how quickly all the kids popped up on their boards catching waves left, right and centre. I have heard many children say they are asking for a surfboard for Christmas. We are so lucky to have an amazing surf beach so close to us. Thank you to those parents who took other children there, supported them and the teachers and made sure we were all safe and happy!
