Andy Parsons —

Back in 2005 I arrived at Logan Park to lead the Technology Department into an exciting future.

Since then there have been staff changes and significant property developments all adding to the outstanding learning experiences and opportunities that our young people have enjoyed over the last 17 years.

This includes a renovated wood workshop, renovated foods room, renovated fabrics room, relocated and renovated digital technology room, decommissioned metal workshop, redeveloped and relocated hard (multi) materials workshop, product design space and rejigged design and visual communication room. And to finish off 2022 a new foods room has been developed along with a new computer science space.

This year we have been fortunate to have David Jenkins on our team. He has continued on from Tim Jones and developed a course that is innovative and exciting in product design. His enthusiasm and industry experience ensures that this course is relevant to current industry and societal needs and expectations. I wish David Jenkins well in his continued career in education in Auckland.

I am confident and excited about the future of this learning area under the new leadership of Teresa Mackay. She will have 3 new hand-picked staff in the areas of hard materials, product design and design and visual communication. Emily, Stefan and Lorne will be a great addition to the existing team of hard-working and innovative teachers. A special mention to Sandra Whipp who is also leaving us this year. Sandra has been Assistant to HOD Technology for the past 15 (22 years in Digital Technology) years and her contribution has been much valued.

I leave Logan Park after 17 years, and more than a few extra grey hairs, proud of the achievements of my team and comfortable in the knowledge that the department is thriving and perfectly suited and adaptable to expanding the minds of our future technologists in an ever changing world.
