1st XI Hockey Mixed Team and Girls Hockey

Henri Gaudin —

The LPHS 1st XI hockey team had a solid season, finishing 3rd in Division 2 amongst tough competition.

For the first time in many years we entered a mixed team into the Tuesday night Secondary Schools boys competition which threw our opposition into disarray having to rework their gameplans around our new, superior setup.

It really was a season of two halves. Initially the team was struggling to score goals, but as the season progressed, and Thursday morning practices took effect, we began scoring more freely through Kate, Reuben and Colin. Reuben scored twice as we beat the Kings 2nds 2-1 in our end-of-season 3/4 playoff. That match was very tense, especially in the last 10 minutes as the Kings team, bolstered by a few 1st team fringe players, pressed us in search of an equaliser. We however remained calm, contrasted to the increasingly frantic and irate Kings boys. In defending our one goal lead we had to put in a few ‘strong’ defensive manoeuvres, resulting in Ben and Reuben getting sent off for 2 and 5 minutes respectively.

This of course would not have been nearly as enjoyable or successful without the week-in-week-out support of family, and the Midas touch of coaching from Dr Thompson. Thanks for all their time and effort.  All the best to them next year, where they can build on the work of this season.

Girls Hockey  - By Abby Spronken

This year we had two Girls hockey teams at Logan Park.

It has been extremely fun with everyone always in high spirits. This enthusiasm pays off as even though we may not win every game, everyone still leaves feeling accomplished. We had a huge success at the Co-Ed tournament this year with our team winning the girls division! This win gave our team a huge confidence boost. I can only hope that our successes continue into next year and that the team stays positive throughout the season as it always has.

Huge thanks to Anna Forester our fabulous coach.
