Dunedin Youth Jazz Festival

John Dodd —

Logan Park Jazz had an extremely successful day on Friday 14 August at the 3rd annual Dunedin Youth Jazz Festival, held in the OBHS Auditorium.

Nine ensembles from Dunedin schools participated in a great day of shared music making. Our two winning bands (one winning the overall Best Combo, the other winning overall best Big Band), played again on Saturday at the showcase concert at Hanover Hall.

Our two bands had been working hard in preparation, and each ensemble has prepared a highly polished and cohesive set, full of vigour and musicianship.

Congratulations to all of these fantastic musicians, and it's particularly rewarding as these bands are new this year, (as most members of the Big Bad Big Band left school at the end of 2019).

The Memorial Jam Shack have already had an accolade recently as runner up of the Otago Chamber Music competition.

Here are the awards received by LPHS:

Best performance on bass: Darcy Monteath
