Toroa House Report

Supplied —

Toroa began 2017 in traditional form. We had another very happy house day at our spot at Long Beach and we got last on Athletics day.

We didn’t really mind. We still ran and jumped and threw with enthusiasm, used a lot of green face paint and wore a lot of cool green outfits. It was a bonding experience.

House day was a lot of fun. We started with our usual inter group games like tossing the gumboot which this year saw some wild and wonderful throws, Mr Hodgkinson risked life and limb marking the longest throws. The year 13's had been waiting five long years for their turn at the raw egg toss and all those years studying the technique paid off and hardly anybody got egg on their face..

The year 13s ably led by house leaders Emma Samuels and Nick Tregonning were a great team, whether it was making the barbeque, leading the beach volleyball, or encouraging their groups for the tug of war competition. And this year the rope didn’t break.

The Toroa leaders have done a great job this year from the sports prefects organising teams for futsal, dodgeball and indoor rowing, to organising some just for fun House assemblies. And at the end of the year their Pearls of Wisdom for the younger members of Toroa were well worth listening to. And Emma’s whakatauki’s all year have been inspirational. We wish all those leaving the very best of luck in all their endeavours and look forward to another great year.
