Dunedin Midwinter Carnival

Arnika Hazelwood —

A number of our students were involved with the annual Midwinter Carnival in June.

The Carnival is a much-loved community celebration in the heart of the Dunedin winter, where art and performance create a unique and magical event.

The highlight of the evening is the Carnival procession, which includes over 1,000 people and hundreds of handcrafted lanterns. Every year, a much-anticipated spectacle is the giant lanterns, costumed stilt walkers, dancers and musicians, parading through the Octagon.

This year's theme was A Winter Tale - a darker take on beloved fairy tales inspired by the likes of the Brothers Grimm. Ex-student Bruno Willis was one of the stilt walkers. Thanks to Ms Ashby for all her support with our students and the Carnival every year.
