Hip Hop Dance Scholarship

Arnika Hazelwood —

Congratulations to talented dancer Sophie Hilton-Manning.

In June, Sophie Hilton-Manning was awarded a Hip Hop Scholarship from the New Zealand Association of Modern Dance. She received the scholarship based on her dance examinations where she achieved an impressive 97%.

The national scholarship will consist of workshops, classes and performances for outstanding dancers in New Zealand. The master classes are held over 3 days and culminate in a final solo performance. Sophie was also our choreographer for our school Musical, Guys and Dolls which unfortunately had to be postponed. Sophie's original choreography style for the musical was 1950's authentic swing with a contemporary twist. Sophie has been dancing since she was 3 years old and she has studied everything from ballet to hip hop. She competed in the Nationals in July and could be considered for the World Championships in the future.
