Reading Challenge Winners 2024
As part of the Year 9 Library programme students take part in a Term 3 Reading Challenge. Individual reading goals are set and students are encouraged to establish a reading habit, to read widely and to read for pleasure.
Research shows that there are extensive benefits from reading for pleasure.
The National Library reports that reading for pleasure:
boosts academic achievement, builds cognitive function
develops empathy and general knowledge
empowers students to become active citizens
improves and builds psychological wellbeing, and
can be relaxing
Reading for pleasure — a door to success | Services to Schools
Students in the six classes engaged in the challenge with enthusiasm and over the course of the term significant gains in sustained silent reading were evident.
