Senior Girls Futsal Report

James Govan —

The senior girls' futsal team played in their first league competition during Term 1 of this year and their second league competition across the third and fourth terms.

The team continued their futsal prowess coming into this year with the same core group of girls. They were narrowly beaten in the final of term one’s competition by a very competitive Otago Girls High School team.

Claudia Dakin-Thompson’s work rate was always 100% and her competence everywhere on the court earned her most valuable player, also collecting the Golden Boot for both competitions across the year.

Maddy Bowen’s vision with the ball and composure in front of goal was crucial to the team’s success. Her presence will be sorely missed when she leaves as a Year 13 this year.

Emma Hamilton’s ability to read the play in defense, and Tayla Ward’s speed and bravery made the duo a force to be reckoned with.

Jazzy Bowen’s versatility as a goal keeper and courageous out-court player made her an indispensable part of the team.

Meran Campbell-Hood, the team’s goal keeper, got more competent in goal as the year progressed, her last few games being particularly strong.

During the second competition, the girls played 6 games, won 4 lost 2, scored 53 goals, and had only 18 scored against them.

Unfortunately the team had a second loss to the same Otago Girls team from the first competition, but did extremely well to make the top 2 once again. Well done girls.
