Diversity Group

Clair —

Logan Park’s rainbow diversity group Technicolour Sandwich has had another great year.

Technicolour Sandwich was set up last year as a group that would provide a safe space for students that are within the LGBTQ+ or rainbow community, as well as those that are questioning, and allies that want to learn more!
At our group, our aim is to provide a safe space to talk. We also have fun activities like colouring in, watching rainbow media and ‘compliment circles’, with a small side of activism. Highlights of the year include our event ‘Day of Silence’, created by New Zealand based insideOUT where we asked students to go without talking to symbolise both the silence society shows towards the bullying of LGBTQ+ people and the silence that is forced upon victims of homophobic/transphobic/biphobic bullying. Many people participated, including some teachers! We even managed to get the Channel 39 Dunedin Television in to film a segment. A further highlight was our visiting speakers, such as Thibaut from Rainbow Youth, some students from Tokomairiro High School, Hahna from OUSA Queer Support and Louise from family planning. Keep a close eye on what we get up to next year!
