Students Sports Council

Leilani Baeumer on Behalf of the Student Sports Council —

This year our Students Sports Council held many events, including the annual sports day and weekly Interhouse games, including Futsal, Netball, Omnikin ball and more.

Our student engagement is the most important thing, and a main focus of the Student Sports Council this year was to increase participation across the school. By doing surveying of our student body about Interhouse Sports, it became apparent that our system needed to change. So to increase participation we had a combination of winner takes all competitions and a new look participation based points system, to highlight that our competitions are for fun and enjoyment, as well as winning.

We also had a special focus on female participation, as Secondary school girls participation in sport has been declining and we noticed this at Logan Park. We had two young woman come in and talk to interested girls about spaces for them and how they can improve their sporting endeavors and experiences.

Despite the year being unsettled by Covid lockdowns and uncertainty around when we'd be back at school, students were enthusiastic about sports and continued to participate. We rounded off the year with a Staff vs Year 13 Dodgeball competition, and despite how much Ms Mouat wanted to win, the students prevailed with a devastating victory. Many year 13's lost their references that day.
