Considering the circumstances, I would say that this was a successful year of hockey for Logan Park High School.

This year we saw a rise of promising talent in our squad, and with the loss of only two Year 13 members of the first XI squad, it looked like the team was in top form to take out the season alongside the strong new talent from the 2nd XI squad.

Unfortunately, the result we achieved in our placing did not truly reflect our team's potential. We ended up not getting placed in the top 4 teams in our devison. This was due to a number of factors, falling short in games against OBHS where we drew 1-1 and losing close games against John McGlashan College and Taieri College. All we needed were slightly different outcomes to change our placing as these were very close games. Our final placing for the season was 5th overall. Our 2nd XI achieved a solid 4th place in their division overall, while developing a lot of skills on the way.

Covid-19 is an unpredictable beast, and as a result, the boys’ first XI were unable to go on tournament this year due to the second lockdown. This was an opportunity that our players were sad to miss out on. This tournament has always been a highlight of the hockey season for many of our players in past years.

On a positive note, we were able to participate in the Dunedin co-ed sports tournament. Our mixed Logan Park hockey team performed very well, our team won all its games and this contributed towards our win for Logan Park across all sports for the tournament.

Finally, I would like to give a huge thank you to our coaches Dr. T and Mr Norton for giving up their time and putting up with the cold early starts at 7:30 every Thursday morning for practice. In addition, I would like to thank them for their dedication to our team and helping us to improve our game.
On a personal note, I would like to thank all the boys for their banter, teamwork and perseverance throughout the season, which made this year's hockey season most enjoyable.

Also congratulations to the boys who made Otago representative teams. Liam Black played for the Otago U18 team winning a bronze medal at the national tournament. Other boys to represent Otago Hockey were: Kieran Black, Zack Hibbert and Micah Duckles.  - Frankie Vella
