Beats Survey

Kristan Mouat —

Our students have been involved in the Built Environment and Active Transport to School (Beats) survey this year.

The research team was looking at trends for young people and looked at diet, physical activity and amount of screen time. The issue of "active transport" essentially walking or cycling to school formed a large part of the study.

Alice McNoe, Fraser Braid, Pania Throp and Patrick Muir were all interviewed by the Otago Daily Times in November. All four students either walk or bike to school.

We were also thrilled to find that our student sports participation rate has risen to 62% this year, where the national average is just 52%.
