Athletics

Various —

Our Athletics program was a huge success this year with some amazing results from the students.

After our school Athletics day with competitive performance and an increase in house participation and spirit we had 21 students who competed in the Otago Secondary School Athletics Champs. There were some impressive results; Leila East-Giles won the U16 Long Jump and was second in the 100 metres; Rebecca Dalphin was first in the U14 3000m. Leila and Rebecca were joined by Jacob Duffy, Zack Hibbert, Finn Lillis, Flynn Nichols, Viviane Dalphin and Annelise Scharpf who also qualified for the Otago Southland Athletics Champs.

With the increase of competition and ability at the Otago Southland Athletic Champs Logan Park students put up a tough fight. Again there were some impressive results; Rebecca Dalphin was second in the U14 3000m; Zack Hibbert was second in the U14 Discus and Annelise Scharpf was third in the U14 High Jump. These students along with Leila East-Giles and Viviane Dalphin qualified for the South Island Champs and enjoyed the strong competition.

Our Athletics Day in February was a splash of colour, costumes and some incredible performances.

House rivalry was evident in the noisy and enthusiastic atmosphere and participation rates were up on previous years. A number of athletes turned in Personal Bests and the atmosphere of support and encouragement was great.

Thanks to Mr Kain, Ms Frost, Ms Vella, Ms Wilkinson, Mr Major and the Student Sports Council for all their efforts organising the day.

The students turned up in a festive mood and the carnival atmosphere saw great participation in all events with a total of 1800 participation points accumulated across the four Houses!
