Mountain Biking - South Island Champs

Aedan Lehr —

On Thursday 30th of April, a strong group of three riders headed up to a chilly Coronet Peak, to face the snow and take on the Skoda Secondary Schools MTB Champs.

Off to a rough start, with Fynn Jackson having to pull out of the cross-country on Friday due to a flat tire and sickness, and the weather set for more rain, Cillian Swords and Aedan Lehr prepped for a slushy downhill race on Saturday, after completing successful seeding runs. Fighting through the mud and gunk, Cillian placed midway out of over a 100 students in his age group with a time of 4:22 and Aedan a time of 3:52 and 16th place with a considerably smaller field of riders.

The next day dawned bright with a drizzle of rain prompting an exciting day for the enduro-race, after completing 4 stages of downhill on Coronet’s most amazing set of trails, the team finished up happy and ready to head home, stoked to have been the first Logan Park team competing at the event.

A big thanks to parents, and Ms Vella for all the support and help getting us to this amazing event!
