Francine Vella —

Logan Park were well represented this year in the Otago Athletics Championships.

This year we had 42 students represent Logan Park at the Otago Athletics Championships held in Dunedin on the 9th March. From the Otago Champs 15 students qualified for the Otago/Southland Championships held on the 16th March.

The number of students qualifying from Logan Park has doubled from last year. Notable successes were:

  • Tash Gosling 2nd U16 Shot Put
  • Danny Howlett 3rd in both U15 Shot Put and Discus
  • Peter Molteno 3rd U16 High Jump
  • Joshua Tree 2nd U16 Long Jump
  • Tane Menzies 3rd Senior Discus

Top three placings at the Otago/Southland Championships were:

  • Danny Howlett 3rd U15 Shot Put
  • Tash Gosling 3rd U16 Shot Put
  • Joshua Tree 3rd U16 Long Jump

Overall 7 of the 15 students further qualified for the South Island Championships. We did not have any top three placings at the South Island Championships but it was a great experience for those students who attended.

Danny Howlett was our most successful student placing 5th in the U15 Shot placing him in the top 5 best U15 Shot Putters in the South Island. Joshua Tree is one to watch for the future. This was his first year competing at this level. He has been identified as having a lot of potential.
