International Summer School

Amber Fraser-Smith —

Instead of sitting the recent NCEA exams, a group of 15 international students had the opportunity to take part in a variety of fun and educational activities during the International Summer School.

The three and a half week programme began with the students cooking a delicious dinner for their homestay families. The following week they took part in a tramp through the stunning Greenstone Valley and fortunately missed the rain that hit the rest of the country.

The students also visited the Botanical Gardens and then wrote poems and produced visual texts about their experiences. Other activities included beach trips, Drama and Art classes, Maths activities, Sports and a trip to the movies to see 'Mockingjay'. The Summer School finished with the students sharing their culture and customs in presentations to junior students, followed by a farewell lunch.
