Cricket 2020

PEF —

Cricket is alive and well at Logan Park High School in 2020.

We are still the only Co-ed team from Dunedin City playing Saturday afternoon cricket. This reflects the decline in overall playing numbers and the dominance of single sex boy’s schools in the competitions. We continue to be competitive in the Open Schools competition and have a new group of year 9s and 10s who will become the backbone of the team for the next few years.

Matthew Cowles, Kieran Graham, Dominic Windle, Connor Stephenson, Bruno McMillan and Alex Parkes make up our leadership group with Matthew completing five years of cricket this year. He leaves us as a superb role model both on and off the field.

The North East Valley Club continues to provide a coach for us after school and this is much appreciated and helps to fine tune the developing skills of the players. For this half season we have Llew who is a batting specialist playing senior cricket and he is in the Otago Volts.

The 2020 season started with only one loss in Term One and two games cut short because of Covid. In term Four so far the weather has interrupted two games that we were clearly winning and we have also only lost one game. This was to John McGlashan when we almost chased 287 to win, falling only nine runs short.

Our new crop of Year 9s and 10s include Ethan and Oscar Lambeth and Loek and Steyn Van Braetchoven. In addition, we have budding talent in Ryan Shotter, James Marshall, Louis McGlynn-Cole and the three Toms; Tom Barson, Tom Macdade and Tom Mcfarlane. Our full squad now numbers at least 16 which is great.

Special thanks to Mal Graham for being team manager, scorer and afternoon tea provider every week despite that weather!

It continues to be an absolute pleasure to help organise and coach this team once again this year.
