Theatresports

Luke Rooney —

This year the Theatresports Club has been running smoothly every Monday lunchtime for a wide range of students interested in learning about improv skills and playing games with their friends. In the face of covid, Theatresports kept going and this year saw a large growth in students coming to club, especially with juniors.

April, Eevee and Bruno have been leading the group through the year, teaching the rules of improv to all who come along and forming connections with students in the club. All the students involved with the club have grown their skills in improv as well as team building. Next year we are hoping to expand the Theatresports Club to take part in workshops about improv as well as inter school competitions.

With every theatresports session we would play an improv game, the favourites this year being Half Life, a game in which each scene is cut down by half from 1 minute to 30 seconds to 15 seconds for example, and Typewriter, a game in which the actors must act a scene whilst someone at a typewriter tells them what is being written for them to perform.

April has been a very capable Theatresports prefect this year, attending the sessions every day she could and providing strong leadership as well as drama ability to the club and making people smile and laugh. She has been an outstanding leader of the Theatresports Club this year and we hope that all the improv skills and leadership she has picked up from the club will help her in her future endeavours.Next year the leadership will keep both Eevee and Bruno but will also add in Seb Cumming, a long time member of the club showing up to every single session and helping to lead the club in the absence of one of the leaders. He has already shown capability of leadership this year as well as improv skills and together with Eevee and Bruno will make a great team of leaders.Theatresports has been the highlight of the year for many students involved and will continue to be so in the next year, under familiar and capable leadership.
