2021 LPHS Yearbook Article - Food Technology Dept

Heather Brown —

2021 saw another busy and enjoyable year in the Food Technology department.

Year 10 students completed a number of interesting units including investigating how to make a healthy change in their lives; how to manage a short food related project for sale by trialling, costing, packaging and then selling goods for a Market Day stall; creating a Fusion Burger to share with a friend; designing and packaging iced cupcakes to a theme; exploring healthy options in a short Vegetarian unit and also learning about nutrients in our Food.

Senior Food Technology students took a closer look at the food science behind common food interactions including why does jam set; what makes a good meringue and pastry and also investigated solving a nutritional problem for someone they know. Their knowledge of how to plan for an experiment and then to write it up to demonstrate their findings expanded over the year - all students grew in confidence and ability. Year 11 also hosted a successful “Invite Your Favourite Teacher to Morning Tea” where they were served a slice of complex breads made by students.
