July Sports Round Up

Arnika Hazelwood —

Our students have been busy training and competing across a range of sports, including Curling.

Mane Marshall (17) continues to impress in Boxing. He won the Southland Boxing Age Group Championships and was named Boxer of the Tournament. Mane will go on to compete in the Nationals in September.

Ella Molteno (14) is an emerging talent and competed in the New Zealand National Luge Championships recently. She placed 4th in the Senior Women's division. Ex-student, and NZ representative Tayla Ward was third in the same competition which illustrates the level of competition.

Ella won the Otago Senior Womans Luge Championships. She posted the fastest time recorded in four years.

In July at the Badminton Nationals, Jorja Hutton and her Otago Under 15 Badminton team finished second in the round robin section and were put into the first division for the rest of the competition. This put them up against NZ rep players which meant some extremely tough games for all. Jorja and her team finished 5th in the 1st division.

In other Badminton news our Logan Park Girls 1 (Emily Wu, Jorja Hutton, Cathy Zeng, Mamu Midorikawa) and Logan Park Boys 1 (Joseph Dewhirst, Theo Molteno, Kevin Chung, Danny Barton) teams each won the 2nd Division in the Secondary School Badminton Competition in Term 2. Other results:Boys: Logan Park 2 placed 2nd in Section 3, Logan Park 3 placed 2nd in Section 6 and Logan Park 4 won Section 7.Girls: Logan Park 2 placed 2nd in Section 4.

She has represented NZ in Under 21 Samurai Karate in the past.

Our Curling team is enjoying the secondary schools' competition and is currently in the top six with finals in August. The team are being coached by Simon Noble who runs secondary school curling. He has been very impressed with our students' attitude and talent!

Regular Winter Sports teams are going well and we enjoyed the Co-Ed Winter Sports Tournament at the end of June. Over a hundred students competed in Badminton, Basketball, Hockey, Football, Curling and Netball.
