🌞 Omimi Report

Mae Rose-Wills —

The colour of happiness, the colour of smiley faces, the colour of the Sun. I am so proud to be in the yellow house.

What an amazing year it has been for Omimi!

We kicked it off to a great start with our fun-filled House Day, travelling all the way to beautiful Warrington Beach. It was a great day to hang out in the sun, building sand rats, playing beach volleyball and eating sausages. The day finished with the much anticipated, annual house day tournament: tug of war (congrats to 2/5). I love House Day because it never fails to start our year off with that familiar Omimi family vibe.

We then had the opportunity to show off our awesome competitive skills at Athletics Day, later that month. Out came the yellow tutus, paint, ribbons, wigs, suspenders and pop culture reference costumes. Yellow everywhere. Getting involved in every event possible. It was a great day to compete and support each other (whether Omimi win or not). Finally, after a long day of house spirit and yellowness, it was announced that we tied with Clayton for 2nd place! We were happy with this result as Clayton has always been our fierce competitor and dear friend; like the silky blue tides to our golden beach.

Nationwide lockdown? More like an opportunity for Omimi to prove its ability to stick together and triumph in hard times. I'm so proud of my house's inspiring effort in our home exercise competition that we held during lockdown. Students from all years were able to participate, logging in daily yoga routines or one off neighborhood jogs. We were amazed by the school's effort and participation, particularly Omimi! We won the overall competition for collectively logging in the most minutes of exercise, receiving the House Cup when school started up again.

We also had a great time participating in all the other inter house activities over the year. We won the Just Dance comp, which was pretty much just a big choreographed dance party. House futsal was, as always, our time to SHINE; we won in a heated penalty shoot out against Aoraki. Then in junior netball, it came down to another tension filled final against our red competitors. This year's inter house competitions have been fun, no matter the sport or score.

Finally, we year 13s said goodbye to our yellow whanau with a last house assembly, where we shared our words of wisdom. Some words were funny, others were heartfelt. But I think the general overall message from us was to be kind, to your teachers, to your friends, but most importantly, to yourself.

In a whole, this year has just been a really fun time for Amasio and me to run, coach and compete alongside our β€œoh so fine” Omimi family. The house shield may have gotten away from us this time, but just like the Sun, you can guarantee that we will rise again.
