On the 10th of June, international students went to the Albatross Colony, on Otago Peninsula.  

We took a bus ride to the Peninsula for a 40 minute drive.  On arrival our guide, Marewa, ushered us into a seminar room for information sharing. In this room Ta was dressed up as a Northern Royal Albatross to teach us various things about the albatross.  We then went outside to the observation platforms to look at the hatchling chicks. We went to the tunnels at Pukerau and sang a song for the local chief, Taiaroa. We saw the disappearing gun set up to defend Dunedin from a Russian invasion that didn’t come. We then had our lunch in front of the complex and at this time an adult albatross flew directly over our heads!

Before our bus left we had ice-cream and purchased post cards from the shop in the complex. Some of us saw a second flying albatross and we were all very impressed.
