Aoraki House Report

Paul Feilding —

2017 started with a long hot summer first term and a wonderful House Day at the beautifully picturesque Waikouaiti Beach.

This year we had a fantastic large team of Year 13 leaders with Oscar Mcguire and Abby Spronken as Heads of House showing the way.

Athletics Day had Aoraki narrowly in the lead at lunchtime but we started to trail into the afternoon behind eventual winners Omimi, finishing third which was a little disappointing. Mobilisation of events and personnel is the key to improvements here next year.

Dodgeball saw Aoraki in the final and looking very good, then the wheels fell off and second place was ours. Futsal proved our downfall where we placed fourth and then in an exciting indoor rowing competition in Term Four consistent results saw us narrowly win the challenge Cup and get to hold it again over the summer holidays.

Overall this led to Aoraki coming second in the House Cup and winners of the Challenge Cup twice.

Our Year 13s showed great leadership and enthusiasm throughout the year and impressed with their peer mentoring of the new Year 8s when they nervously arrived for their first days at Logan Park.

Academically our House continues to shine, dominating the Blues and Prize giving awards held during the year. Congratulations to Louis Whitburn who was named Dux in a close run contest.

Next year’s House leaders have already been chosen and we congratulate Lucan Willis and Bella Rennie.

And so we look forward to 2018….I wonder where House Day will be next year?…Can we win Athletics Day?...... Watch this space…
