Omimi 2021

Olivia Goldsmith —

This year, Omimi House has gotten involved in a wide variety of activities.

The beginning of the year featured House Day and Sports Day. We went to Aramoana for House Day, and had a fantastic time at Shelly Beach, with sandcastle-building, sports games, swimming, not to mention a dash of rivalry between the groups in various competitions- especially tug-o-war!. Sports Day was a beautiful day as well, and it was wonderful to see Omimi participating in all kinds of events, as well as getting a number of first, second, and third placings.

Omimi has had a lot of success in interhouse competitions over the year, and everyone always has a blast (the yellow house is certainly known for being fairly competitive). From dodgeball and multisport to the LPHS game show and the O’Mathalon, Omimi always has plenty of students eager to join in. It’s great to see juniors and seniors alike participating, and there's a highly enthusiastic and positive atmosphere.

This year, we also redesigned the Omimi flag. After an intergroup competition to find the best new flag, 2/4’s Sam McGee won, with a beautiful flag featuring our namesake, the Omimi stream that runs by Logan Park.

Omimi House has suffered a very sad loss recently. Our much loved dean, Ms. Henderson, passed away in November. She will be sorely missed, especially her incredible enthusiasm at House Day and Sports Day, and her regular visits around all the groups. We give our best wishes to those she leaves behind.

Our new dean, Ms. Summerfield, has stepped up commendably and will most certainly keep up the strong Omimi House spirit in the future. We have many excellent group teachers who have been absolutely amazing this year as well, so a huge thank you to them!

Most of all, thank you to all the incredible Omimi students this year. It has not always been the easiest of times, but you’ve seen it through, and we are extremely proud of all we have accomplished as a house this year.
