Futsal

Kate Denys and Warwick Kain —

Futsal is always a huge sport at Logan Park with lots of teams entered into the league. This year we had 7 senior teams and 6 junior teams competing. There is a huge amount of talent shown at the futsal games at a variety of levels.

Mae Rose Wills and Amasio Jutel both attended the National Futsal Youth League as Otago Representatives in July.

Thank you to the many student coaches and parent helpers your support is essential.

The Senior A boys’ team travelled to Wellington to compete in their first national Futsal tournament in the second week of Term Two.

Futsal is one of the fastest growing sports globally. This growth has seen the level of Futsal in New Zealand improve rapidly with several schools fielding junior All Whites in their teams. It was a bit of an adventure just getting to Wellington, with fog causing the plane to be redirected to Auckland. The team was left to drive from Auckland to Wellington, arriving in Wellington 21 hours after leaving Dunedin. Then they had to play eventual finalist Napier Boys’ High school. A loss of 5 nil was actually respectable given Napier Boys beat everyone else in their group by 11 goals or more. However because of the delays we didn’t progress to the finals.

Well done to team members: Joseph Araya, Matai Bowen, Benjamin Dubyk, Ziggi Kaitai- Martin, Solomon Liesbeth, Ben Major, Shae Moore, Max Riddle and Samuel Yeardley.

Logan Park had a very successful finish to the Term 4 Futsal Secondary School competition. Featured in finals were Logan Park 10A boys, Logan Park 10B Boys, Logan Park A girls, and Logan Park 9A boys.

Logan Park 10A boys took out the win in the Div 1 competition beating Kings A boys in a thrilling 4-3 win. Goals scored by Amasio Jutel 2, Jack Rae 1 and Liam Smith 1. Lucas Reid was a star in goal. Special thanks to our superb student coaches Ben Major and Ben Duijck.

Logan Park A girls won the 2nd Divison against Queens 4-1.
