LPHS Musicians Perform at Otago Museum

Emily Fotheringham and Ava van Asten —

On Saturday the 20th of May, a group of Logan Park students organised and played in a pop up concert in the Otago museum.

This informal concert was a great opportunity for our group to gain performance experience in a comfortable environment, and the acoustics in the Otago Museum was great!

The groups that played in the concert were;

Fluteology (Ava van Asten, Karuna Yang, and Emily Fotheringham)

The Cornish Pasties (Callum Fotheringham, James Hurley, and Zoe Barton)

I Quattro Violini: Savarna Yang (violin) plus members from other Dunedin schools

As well as a number of other Logan Park students (Benjamin Sun, Alexander Sun, Ronglei Liu, and Bianca Van der Haegen) who performed as soloists. Overall, the performance was a great way for all the performers to prepare us for the coming performances, including one at Balmacewen Intermediate and Summerset on Tuesday the 30th May and eventually the contest itself on the 9th June.

Alexander Sun, one of the organisers and performers, had this to say about the event: "Bianca, Ronglei and I are part of "Connections", a student-run group aiming to share classical music with the public. The group organized and played in a performance in the Otago Museum on May 20th, featuring music from soloists and performers - including two Logan Park trios, Savarna, and Benjamin. There was a wide range of musical styles and ensembles, and the group are keen to continue into the future."

A note from Ms Manowitz: 'Fluteology' and Logan Park High School got a special mention on the 'RNZ Concert' Facebook page. One of the producers from RNZ Concert happened to be at the museum at the time of the performance and wanted to share about the wonderful work that the students have been doing. Well done to all students involved, both to the organisers and performers.
