Sailing at the America's Cup

Various —

Anna Walrond (14) continues to be one to watch in sailing.

She competed in the National Sailing Open BIC in Dunedin in January. Anna was selected as one of two top 20 sailors in the competition and will now compete in Bermuda in June. Ex-Ravensborne sailor and America's Cup legend, Sir Russell Coutts paid for the accommodation and flights. He has continued to generously support sailing in Dunedin and New Zealand.

Anna sailed in Bermuda in the America's Cup Endeavour O'Pen event in June.

Anna is one of the top sailors in her age group in New Zealand and is one of 32 sailors who competed at the America's Cup Endeavour O'Pen held in conjunction with the finals of the main event.

Anna has also been selected as part of a small group receiving coaching from Sir Russell Coutts. Russell Coutts has been a three time champion skipper and is America's Cup CEO. He is also an ex-Ravensbourne Club member and supports up-and-coming sailors. Coutts has been coaching a group including Anna and they send videos every two weeks via Facebook messenger. He responds with specific feedback and also has Skype sessions with the group every second Sunday. Coutts has also given them personalised six-day-a-week physical training programmes. The young sailors had been getting noticeably better with the guidance and were interested to see how they would compare on the world stage.
