Hockey 2018

Mary Locker —

This year I have had the privilege of being the captain of the Logan Park Girls' Hockey team. We started off the season with a fantastic bunch of girls full of potential and enthusiasm, and we finished up a fantastic group of friends, having developed some of the aforementioned potential, as well as a sense of camaraderie.

Playing sport has always been a great way to meet new people and make new friends, but I’ve never felt that as much as I have with this team.

We had a relatively successful run in the Dunedin-wide school competition, with a few wins and a few losses, but we all improved immensely under the guidance of Mr Spronken.

To end the season we headed down to Gore with Ms Fraser for tournament. While we may not have enjoyed a whole lot of success at tournament in the traditional sense, it made me super proud to see everyone on the team really push themselves, whether it was mentally, staying positive during a particularly tough game, or physically, when everybody was exhausted at the end pf the week.

I’d like to say thank you to the girls on this year’s team for making my last season with Logan Park a great one, and last but not least to Mr Spronken for being the best coach.
