Omimi House Report

Tahlia Hapuku —

Omimi had an unbelievable year with many 1st places throughout different House events.

To start the year off with a bang, our House headed to Aramoana for a ‘Mexican/South of the Border’ themed Beach Day. The morning’s weather was not on our side but we sure didn’t let it “rain on our parade" and it did eventually clear up throughout the day.

During the day Year 13 students led different games and group competitions, encouraging all members of our House to participate. Capture the Flag was the biggest hit for all students, getting everyone involved and 2/4 easily taking the winning title. When lunchtime came around Tash, Lauren and Brendan cooked enough sausages to feed a small army. While some people fearlessly braved the cold water our own House member Tait, overlooked them with the important job of being our lifeguard. Others chose to sit back and watch from afar. It was a good day and everyone really enjoyed themselves!

Sports day was another big success with Omimi taking out 1st place for the third year in a row. Everyone gave their best efforts in all events, some even coming out on top becoming champions such as 2/6’s Emma, gaining Girls’ Senior Javelin Champ.

The anti-litter initiative this year called for House groups to create artistic presentations to represent the school's standing on litter consciousness. All our House groups came up with interesting and innovative ideas. 2/1 came up with a hit single called “Litter Consciousness”. The lyrics were even posted on the Keep Dunedin Beautiful website. 2/4 created a mockumentary involving a scary “Litter Bug” made out of trash. Omimi won this competition and we all enjoyed creating ideas and had lots of fun presenting them in our House assembly.

Omimi wasn’t so victorious at Dodge-ball with our House being placed second. We suspect some foul play was in order due to the fact we did not win but because we are respectful and motivated students we let it slide.

Inter-house indoor Rowing was a smashing success for Omimi House this year. We dominated the senior girl’s race coming first. Junior boys came in a close second in their race and the junior girls came in third, completely annihilating Toroa by a good two thousand metres. When time came for the senior boys race it was all tied at 6 points each. Nevertheless our Omimi boys boosted it and came in first to claim victory for our house in the indoor rowing competition.

This year we sadly have to say goodbye to the legendary, Mr Bruce McKinney. He has been a huge asset to Logan Park High School, the coolest Group teacher and will be greatly missed by all of the student and teacher body. Overall this year has been outstanding, no doubt 2016 will be just as spectacular.
