Biology Camp

Ahi Kaitai-Mullane —

Who would have thought a competitive camp could be so inclusive? The NZIBO selection camp held during the April school holidays has been one of the most supportive and nurturing environments for learning I have had the privilege of being a part of.

I have made so many friends, and not just friends for camp, friends I will keep in contact with far beyond this experience. I have filled my brain with so much information, I swear some of it might be leaking out the cracks; learning so much about dissection, staining, the evolution of reptiles, and I don’t know if I will ever look at a flower quite the same. A daisy is actually a bunch of flowers… what?

I have consistently been pushed to my limits academically but not without a supportive group of teachers and other students to catch me if I fall. Just one entrance exam led me all the way to here and I would highly recommend anyone with a passing interest in biology to give it a shot. Camp was the bee's knees!
