Petanque

Amanda Ellwood —

Petanque was played in both Term 1 and Term 4 this year, with consistent membership from Rebecca Scott, Matthew Scott and Nathan Mutch. It was a pleasure to see so many juniors show an interest during our Junior Sports Week, and it suggests the sport is likely to grow from here.

The secondary schools competition runs Tuesdays from 4pm to 6pm, and after a long bike up to the Mornington Petanque Club, Nathan showed skill and thoughtfulness as he competed against the random draw in the Senior League to contribute towards his overall standing of 9 place out of 12.

Matthew, who can often be spotted practicing in the few minutes before the competition starts, and during the breaks, continued to show growth in his technique with a final standing of 2nd place in the Senior League. Both Matthew and Rebecca also compete with the Dunedin City Petanque league, traveling around the country to play in singles, doubles and triples, and often returning home with an impressive result. It is no wonder then, that Rebecca finished the Secondary School Petanque Competition in the Senior League at 3rd place overall.  Well done to all!

Petanque will enjoy another win, with our very own petanque pitch being laid for LPHS! This will come in handy with the season next year running in term 1 and 2, until May. Get involved in 2022!
