Netball
2020 saw an unsettled year for the all netball teams. Covid meant that the season started a term later with fewer games than usual.
This did not stop the enjoyment of the game. Trials were held for all levels and practices began soon after our return to school in Term 2.
We were fortunate to have wonderful coaches for all our teams. Senior and junior teams all had gym time to practice and netball skills improved as a result. The Wednesday practices with the senior A team and Junior Gold proved to be a step up for the junior girls, who all showed significant improvement from the start of the season to now.
Saturday games were lots of fun, with the girls learning to play as a team and adapting to playing teams of a higher level.
A highlight for Junior Gold was the Year 9/10 tournament played on the 13th and 14th of September. The girls came out with a 5th place standing in their grade with Eva Woodhouse named on the talented players list.
The end of the season break up was another highlight for the junior team, where we played a parents vs kids game. The kids came out with the victory and food was shared afterwards.
Praise can be given to the girls who always had smiles on their faces. The team spirit and morale that they displayed is something I hope they continue to show for the rest of their time playing netball.
Big thanks to Mel Graham who umpired for the Junior Gold team during covid restrictions when we had to supply our own umpires, and a massive thanks to the parents who always supported the team even though they were unable to come and support the girls during the majority season due to covid restrictions.
The Senior A girls were supported through the covid restrictions by De Thomson. De coached and umpired. Unfortunately there was no local Otago Secondary School Champs this year but the girls did get to play at the Co-Ed winter tournament day.
