WEN - Women in Engineering Talk

Amanda Fraser and Yvonne Caulfield —

Logan Park was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to host three post graduate students from WEN (Women in Engineering Network) at Auckland University. They came to give a talk about the applications of science and mathematics in the field of engineering.

During this session our students were given the unique opportunity to not only dive into the world of the engineering design process but were also given a glimpse of the various fields of engineering available to study.

Students were challenged with the problem:

No evening is complete without dessert, but after a long day at school, you have no energy to make it! Design a product that enables the user to have delicious dessert with minimal effort

They were then guided through the processes of problem-solving, innovation, and critical thinking to come up with possible solutions.

WEN’s goals are:

  1. Encourage female identifying students into engineering

  2. Support female identifying students while studying

  3. Ensure success after university
