Futsal success and October sports news

Arnika Hazelwood —

Three of our senior Futsal teams made it to the finals of their divisions. Our Senior Boys A Futsal team won their division in a thrilling final 2-1 against Otago Boys and our Senior Girls B team played KVC and won their division.

The Senior A Girls team were second to OGHS and our Senior Boys 2 team came 4th in their division. Overall a great season for the senior teams and our Logan Park Junior 1 Boys team is currently in first place.

A recent highlight for some of our Sports Leaders was Breakfast with Tony Brown. OSSSA invited Tony Brown, Assistant Coach of the triumphant 2015 Highlanders team to have breakfast with secondary school sports leaders from throughout Otago. Chris Gillett, Oliver Eden-Mann, Sean Hall, Jacob Hall and Erica Stedman all appreciated hearing Tony speak about the importance of creating a positive team culture and how this can apply to any group, organisation, business or school.

We enjoyed some trans-Tasman rivalry and robust competition against Kingaroy State High School from Queensland Australia in the last week of Term 3. Teams competed in Touch, Futsal, Volleyball and the epic Dodgeball. Kingaroy took out the Touch and Volleyball with Logan Park winning the Dodgeball and Futsal.

Congratulations to Albert Baeumer, Matai Bowen, Shae Moore, Joseph Araya and Solomon Liesbeth who all competed in Otago age group Football teams over the holidays in South Island age group Tournaments.

Ben Deaker traveled to Hamilton during the holidays to complete National Skills Testing for New Zealand Diving. He is competing in the Silver Division at National level.

The annual Interhouse Rowing competition featured plenty of House spirit and pride early this term. Students competed in Junior and Senior Boys and Girls teams. The rowing machines were connected to the big screen in the Gym, so it was exciting watching teams progress and overtake each other. Omimi House was the overall winner.

Summer sports have started well with teams competing in a range of codes including cricket, tennis, waterpolo, and touch weekly competitions.
