BADMINTON

PEF and Luke Brinsdon. —

2022 was another very good year for Logan Park badminton. We continue to have a team in the premier division and this year they were the third best team in Dunedin.

The team comprised Luke Brindson, Jack Ta, George Fisher and a new year 9 Damian Dyke. These talented players held their own against some formidable opposing teams. Both Luke and Jake are top Otago representatives for their age groups.

Three other teams played at Badminton Hall and most players were in year 9 or 10. A ladder challenge system meant there was intense competition to rise up in the teams each week to secure places for the interschool matches.

At the Coed tournament in August we combined with the girl’s badminton players to place second behind Kavanagh. We were very strong in the boys section and came very close to beating Kavanagh for the trophy.

Maybe next year?

Luke Brinsdon:

Logan park boys badminton had a pretty good year overall. Team 1 came 3rd, and Boys 2 came 9th for the First Division. Team 3 and 4 came 8th and 9th in Division 2.

The participation this year was amazing, with a lot of new people coming in to play at training, so much that we had to start the fourth team, which I don’t think we were thinking we’d get.

On the 30th of June, both the Girls 1 and Boys 1 teams joined up for the coed tournament, which they came second in.

Luke Brinsdon, the best player ever, is leaving, which is very sad and he will be missed by everyone.

It would be great to see this level of involvement again next year. We were pretty stacked this year with a team of 3 Otago reps, with Jack ta, Luke the G.O.A.T. and Damien, who were all in Team 1.

Hope to see everyone next year back again for a good season!
