Rugby at Logan Park

Francine Vella —

A little roundup of the boys and girls rugby year.

Boys Rugby

The boys worked hard to have a positive season after Duncan Trickey, their inspirational coach moved on from Logan Park at the end of last year. The boys honored Duncan by giving him a team jersey. Russell Campbell took on the coaching role alongside Chris Gillett, our student coach. Thanks to them both. Two highlights of the season were Chris Gillett and Sean Hall refereeing rugby games through to club level and breakfast with Tony Brown.  A number of international students tried playing rugby and discovered how tough the game is first hand. Our standout players were Jacob Gosling and Patit (In or Income) Viwatmanuskul.

Girls Rugby

The girls had a great season joining with the Pirates Rugby club to form a combined school girls team. Fantastic coaching from Otago level women players saw the girls improve and combine well as a team. Thanks to OSSSA for a well run girls rugby competition and for providing the opportunity for our girls to play under the Pirates Rugby club.

Touch Rugby

Touch has grown as a sport with four teams in Term 1. Three senior mixed teams and one junior team. Term 4 was focused on Juniors with a strong mixed team winning most of their games and attending the Junior Sports Tournament. Our teams focus more on having fun together and it is very social.
