2015 Netball

Ms Brown, Netball Manager —

2015 was a successful netball season for Logan Park teams.

Four teams were entered in the local Saturday competition this year. The Senior A and B teams were very fortunate to be coached by Mrs Puna Brydon and managed by Mrs Wendy Russell who introduced a new regimen of an early morning coaching and an after school coaching session. Players were very enthusiastic and fitness and skill levels built steadily during the season. Both teams were third in their closely fought sections and were unlucky not to finish higher up the table.

The Intermediate A team was ably coached by Georgia Guthrie in Year 13 and improved under her leadership all season. The Junior A team was fortunate to have Carmen Heinze-Farrington and Sophie Hilton-Manning as their enthusiastic and dedicated coaches who took this team to second in their higher graded section.

A composite Senior team and, for the first time, an Intermediate team were entered in the Otago Secondary Schools Otago Harraways Netball Tournament over the 7th and 8th June. Both teams gained valuable experience in playing against teams of a very high standard.

Plans for 2016 include growing the number of teams at the school to six, promoting Netball Umpiring qualifications to students who enjoy netball but do not necessarily want to play (leading on to paid umpiring opportunities) and possibly entering the South Island Secondary Schools South Island tournament which will be held in Nelson in 2016.

I encourage any student who would like to play netball next year to keep their fitness up over the summer and to look forward to netball trials later in the first term. I would like to thank the wonderful coaches who gave so willingly of their time this year, Ms Francine Vella the LPHS Sports Coordinator and the many parents and family who supported their daughters on the sideline and with transport.
