Mental Health Awareness Week 2024

Danielle Frost —

In Week 10 of Term 3, we celebrated Mental Health Awareness Week. As part of this week, the Year 12 Health class ran a variety of activities aiming to promote wellbeing for the school community.

These activities were aimed at fitting with the Mental Health Foundations 5 ways to wellbeing: (https://mentalhealth.org.nz/five-ways-to-wellbeing) Connect, Be Active, Take notice, Keep learning and Give.

Below is a summary of the Health Promotion Campaigns:

Sticky note affirmations by Remus, Poppy and Leo

Around the school, we put up posters covered with sticky notes which had kind messages/affirmations for students to take and either keep for themselves or give to others.  We did this to try to improve student morale and spread kindness.

Fitness room fun by Lukas and Brayden

We put up posters around the school encouraging students to come along and join a fitness session on Tuesday 24th. We had a small group of students, so we were able to support them with some exercises they were struggling with 1 on 1. After the session their form seemed to have improved a lot..

Interhouse multisport by Noah and Isaak

There was a very large turnout for inter-house multisport on Thursday September 26th. Thank you so much to all those that attended the event, and it seemed like everyone had a blast. Omimi and Aoraki tied for first place, but this event was just about having fun, inclusivity, and teamwork. Hopefully events like this can continue in the future and repeat the amazing turnout there was on this day.

Mental Health Awareness Week Music Concert by Abby, Finn and Maia

For Mental Health Awareness Week with permission from the student council and the help of Mrs Frost, Ms Fahy and Strawberry sound, Finn, Abby and Maia organised an outdoor concert and a non-uniform day. The non-uniform day was a great way to raise some funds that we could then donate to the New Zealand Mental Health Foundation. The concert was a success and luckily the rain held off long enough to get away with it. The bands that performed were Sp!derd!ck, The Duck’ns, Flush Median and the Grandparents. All the performances were great and it was a nice way to get the whole school together for an opportunity to connect and give.
