Technicolour Sandwich

Dante Dawes —

Known affectionately as ‘Techni’, Technicolour Sandwich has grown over the last few years into a lively haven of lgbt+ advocacy and community within the school. This year in particular has been full of success for us.

A culmination of years of work, the LPHS uniform is now entirely gender neutral. Anyone can wear either a kilt or pants, and any senior can wear the tie. This incredible achievement has been our focus since Techni was founded in 2016, and with the valuable support of the Student Council, we have finally done it.

Another victory for the lgbt+ community that Student Council has been instrumental in has been the removal of gender division in the Head Prefect roles. In previous years, the specific requirement of a Head Boy and Head Girl has stopped many non-binary and otherwise genderdiverse students even applying for these roles.

I’ve been a part of Techni since my Year 9, and had the privilege of leading it for the last year. It has honestly been one of the highlights of my time here, and I will certainly miss the unique community we have built here, however I have full confidence in the leaders who will be taking it from here.

As the school environment becomes more and more accepting of lgbt+ students, Techni’s role in the school will change too. I only hope it continues to support and provide a welcoming space for students for years to come.

Qrowe Note.

I feel very sad to leave techni, it has been a bit of a safe space for me in my younger years and then the honour I felt being able to lead it was immeasurable, despite the fact that I'm gong to miss techni I'm also so proud of the techni members some whom I have watched change and gain confidence in their identities.
