Student Council

Stephanie Devereux —

For the Student Council in 2017 we have had to deal with a lot of change. From the change of management to how we run our funding systems we are one step closer to being a better, fairer council.

We are proud that a wider range of age groups have participated in the council from Term 1 through to Term 4, due to our new ‘group representatives’. This has allowed juniors and seniors to create a council that has a wider demographic vote. We have funded a wide range of activities this year. Waterpolo, curling, boys hockey tournament, jazz band, youth week outdoor concert, karaoke, spirit of adventure voyage, Shakespeare trip, a student's trip to technicolour sandwich youth hui, junior volleyball tournament and many other events. Our main focus however this year was to achieve a student project. We decided to set aside money from the start of the year. We surveyed different groups to find out what could be something we leave behind that would better the school. After having researched and researched we decided that we wanted to improve the sound system in the school auditorium. Improving this would help with school assemblies, productions, youth week activities, and any other events that would use the stage. We worked with Strawberry Sound and have planned a new sound system that will be installed by hopefully the end of this year ready for 2018. The sound system will include two QSC K12 powered speakers, soundcraft 16 channel mixing desk, preamp and changeover switch, two new power points, microphone snake, Samson handheld wireless system, and a Samson headset wireless system. The student council of 2017 really hopes that this project will help benefit the school and that students and teachers will appreciate the new upgrades. We were also very lucky that the PTSA helped us achieve this project by donating the rest of the funds needed.
