Public Speaking Successes

Kristan Mouat —

Our Public Speakers competed successfully in a number of competitions throughout the year.

Connor Seddon and Josephine Devereux were placed first and second respectively in the Dunedin Rotary Four-Way Speech competition.  Connor went on to win the Otago final, and then the Otago-Southland final beating the best speakers from Timaru, Central Otago and Invercargill.

Jacobi Kohu-Morris was placed second in the Otago final of the RSA Cyril Bassett VC Speech competition. Jake also spoke persuasively in the Otago final of the Race Unity speech competition.   Jake also won the Otago-Southland Manu Korero regional final for the third year in a row, and competed in the Nationals in Napier.

Connor, Oscar McNoe and Jacobi were named Best Speakers in the Otago Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) event.  All three went to Wellington to compete in the national event.

And Oscar McGuire, Year 10 won our school's Junior Public Speaking competition, with his speech on "Human Devolution" and was placed a very close second in the Otago Final held at King's High School in Term 4.
