2019 Staff News

Supplied —

We will have a number of new staff starting in 2020 because of the growth in our roll.

We will farewell Drama teacher and House Dean of Toroa, Christine Colbert at the end of 2019 after 47 years with Logan Park High School. See the "Farewell and Welcome," Otago Daily Times article on this here: https://hail.to/lphs/publication/FaQ3196/article/EmWoePB

Accomplished artist, sculptor and teacher, Pam McKelvey is retiring after 17 years at Logan Park teaching Art, Art History, Painting and Photography. Pam has also been the Group Teacher of 2/3 and she started her career as a trainee teacher at Logan Park. Pam has been a keen Year 10 Camp supporter every year as well as supporting Tramping trips, ski trips, Spirit of NZ and helping organise outdoor education programmes for International students. Pam has also organised and painted some of our beautiful art murals around the school including outside the canteen - "Care for our Earth."

Music maestro John Dodd is looking forward to reduced hours and responsibilities in 2020. He steps down as Head of Music after 20 years.  He will continue to teach some classes and take our legendary Jazz Band as well as Orchestra. Hana Fahy has been appointed Head of Music.

Barbara Fitzsimons is also reducing her hours as a French teacher but will retain the Head of Languages position.  Yvonne Caulfield has been appointed Toroa Dean.

During the year we farewelled Rebecca Haberdache from the English and Social Studies areas and Rhondda Bowen from Maths. Fortunately Eric McAuslan, Mal Thompson and Lesley Taylor were able to step in and take over these classes with professionalism and enthusiasm.

One of our wonderful Office Administrators, Carol Spalding finished up this year to pursue other interests and travel.

We farewell Lucan Willis who has been a superb Teacher Aid with the Learning Support Class. Finn Kelly our fabulous assistant Sports Co-Ordinator and football/futsal coach will also leave at the end of this year. The always calm Greg Martin who has been teaching students as part of our Learning Support Programmes will also finish at the end of 2019.

Danielle Frost welcomed her wonderful daughter Willow to her expanding whanau and Bianca Whalan added a beautiful baby daughter Isla Rose to her family.

Thanks to all of our hard working and motivated team.
