Year 9 Library Lessons 2023

LIz James —

The Year 9 Library Lessons begin with a Library Orientation.

The focus of the programme is on the promotion of literacy, fostering a love of reading, encouraging students to read widely and to understand a range of texts.

Our study of Fantastic Fiction includes Genre in Fiction. Students become familiar with a range of genres and are encouraged to give unfamiliar genres a try. Students design a bookmark displaying features of their chosen genre. Bookmarks are on display in the library and copies are available to students.

Finding Information. The aim of lessons in Term Two is to develop independent and confident library users. Lessons familiarise students with the Non-fiction and Reference sections. We focus on developing valuable skills, enabling confident use of the Dewey Decimal System, the Online Public Access Catalogue and the ‘Epic Databases’.
