Skate Jam

Milo Long —

In November, Logan Park High School hosted a lunchtime Skateboarding Jam for the student skaters of all year groups.

The jam was held on the top tennis courts that holds the skatepark equipment the school kindly bought earlier this year. The jam was a 30 minute competition where the participants skated freely and to the best of their ability.

We had an experienced panel of judges made up of random teachers and students who chose winners from multiple categories. These included: best trick, best slam, best grom, best effort, and best new learning. The different winners of each category were awarded with skateboarding related prizes at the end of the competition in a grand and honourable 2 minute prize giving.

The aim of this skate jam was to provide an enjoyable event that skaters and audience could enjoy as well as to showcase the talented students of Logan Park High School to the teachers and the rest of the student body. Thank you to everybody that partook in the event, it was a whole lot of fun and had a great turn out. A massive thank you to Ms Mouat, Mr Hills, Mr Kain, and Mr Biggin for encouraging the event and for organising and supplying the students with fantastic skateboarding equipment earlier in the year, and an absolutely massive thank you to Dunedin's local skate store, Pavement, for supplying the awards free of charge! Go check them out for all your skateboarding and/or clothing needs because they are fantastic people and you are bound to be met with a smile and a great conversation.  Thanks Pavement.
