Logan Park had 9 students participating in the Special Olympics event this year.

The mission of the Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for students giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Logan Park has had a proud history of competing in the Athletics Ribbon Day at the Caledonian and has enjoyed many successes through the years.

The true joy of the event is watching the smiling and socialising that goes along with the Otago wide event with close to 200 participants. 

The competition is very stiff but Logan Park has a proud record on the track with former student Keiran Allnat clearing up the competition last year with an electric time of 12:49 in one running event.

In Brendon Raukura, it looks like the school may have found a new track champion for the future with Brendon clearly taking first and second places in the 50m and 100m running events. 

All the athletes participating did really well with notable performances including Tyler Waters in Long Jump. Baz Copland was a clear winner in the Softball throw although fellow Logan Park student Jackson Riddle did threaten his place. 

All in all a great day out for the boys and we really look forward to the Aquatic event next term.
