Peer Reading
During the Dunedin Writers and Readers Festival, Logan Park High School started its own reading festival with the Peer Reading Programme getting underway at the school.
The school had twenty Year 9 students and twenty-three Yr 13 students involved.
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Group-time these committed students met in the library to get in some extra reading time. The junior students really enjoyed getting to know their big buddies and looked forward to meeting them each day. Senior students took on the role of mentoring their younger buddies very seriously. They asked perceptive questions, sought extra advice about how to be better tutors and took extra time to find out as much as they could about the many ways we learn to read.
I have been very impressed this year with the high level of engagement from our junior students and the committed, mature approach our senior tutors have taken. Well done everyone. If parents wish to know more about the programme please get in touch with Ms MacTaggart.
