We have all enjoyed being able to get back into some sports in Term 3.

We won the Hilary Outdoors Get 2 Go Challenge Adventure Race, Premier Mixed Division in September. The team of Eva Woodhouse, Cora Chapman, Tsugumi Parks Watanabe, Zoe Barton, Kieran Black, Flynn Hayward, Ethan and Oscar Lambeth have qualified to represent Otago/Southland at the Nationals on Great Barrier Island in December. Our Year 9 team competed well too. 

Our First XI Boys and Girls Football teams enjoyed their Otago/Southland Tournaments during Winter Tournament Week. The Girls competed in Dunedin and played well. Our team had a large number of Juniors so for us the tournament was a good chance to develop players for future tournaments. We had to push through some injuries which affected our overall result. Maggie Gorman (Captain) was identified as the most valuable player in our team. 

The Boys First XI competed in Invercargill. With 4 pools, 3 teams in each, and James Hargest and Central Southland College in our pool, we rated our chances of a top 4 finish. We had a convincing 5-0 win over Central Southland College on Monday afternoon which meant we only had to beat James Hargest to top our pool. After a hard fought battle against Hargest on Tuesday morning, the game ended in a coin toss, which deservedly went our way. Tuesday afternoon we avoided top of Pool B, Mount Aspiring and played Southland Boys in the quarter final which ended in a draw which we lost on penalties, dropping us out of the top 4. We played Bayfield next, which we won comfortably 4-1, moving us into the 5th/6th playoff position. We played Mount Aspiring, who surprisingly got beaten by James Hargest in their quarter final who beat us to make us 6th overall. It was a great tournament with a great team.   

Our Junior Girls A Netball team attended the Yr 9/10 Otago/Southland Netball Tournament recently. The girls played very well and have grown as players. We placed 5th narrowly missing out on making the top four. Eva Woodhouse was named as a Talented Player from our division. .  The girls have improved markedly over the season. There speed around the court and communication with each other stood out. Two standout Yr 9 players are Sylvia Baeumer in defence and Lily Abbott in attack. Both read the game well. Big thank you to Laura Graham Student coach. Laura has done a fabulous job coaching the girls. Laura has given many years of service as a coach to both Logan Park and DNI, are we hoping to see her back next year.  Thanks to Laura Graham who coaches the girls

Maggie Gorman and Mae Rose Wills played their last game for Logan Park Girls Football. Such wonderful ambassadors of the sport.  

Over 100 students in a number of teams and codes enjoyed competing in the the Co-Ed Secondary Schools Sports Tournament in the last week of term.  Results in the next issue of Park Press.
